About the Browse Notes Screen
The Browse Notes screen lists all your notes in the order you specify in Sort submenu (read more in Sort Your Notes). By default, the notes are displayed folded. This means that only the first line of the note is shown.
Note: The ellipsis (...) indicates there's more to the note than what is shown in the folded view. Unfolding is explained in the topic below.
Use the wheel to scroll through the notes. You'll know you've highlighted a note when its border appears darker than the notes around it.

While you're in the Notes application, you can use the following shortcuts for menu items:

View Your Notes
There are two notes "views". You select the view you want by pressing Menu
and selecting one of:
- View Notes [
] - Displays all notes.
- View Trash [
T] - Displays the notes you've discarded.
Unfolding/Folding a Single Note
To unfold a single note, do the following while in the Notes application:
- From the Browse Notes screen, scroll to highlight the note then press the wheel. The note expands, showing the full text. Unfolded, focused notes are editable.
- If your note is longer than the screen, use the wheel to scroll up/down the note contents. You can also use the D-pad arrows to navigate within the text.
- To fold your note again, press the wheel. The note folds, showing only the first line.
Unfolding/Folding All Your Notes
To unfold all your notes, do this while in the Notes application:
- From the Browse Notes screen, press Menu
then select Unfold All [
9].
- Scroll up/down through the list of notes.
- At any time, if you want to fold a notes' contents, first highlight the note, then press the wheel. The contents of the note collapse, but the note is still highlighted.
- To re-fold all your notes, press Menu
and select Fold All [
0]. All the notes' contents collapse. The note that was highlighted when you folded all the notes remains highlighted.
Sort Your Notes
In the Browse Notes view, you can specify the order in which your notes are displayed. By default, notes are sorted alphabetically, A to Z, but you can change that by doing the following while in the Notes application:
- From the Browse Notes screen, press Menu
then select Sort to open the submenu. Select from the following options:
- Alphabetically, A to Z
- Alphabetically, Z to A
- Last modified, newer on top
- Last modified, newer on bottom
- Creation date, newer on top
- Creation date, newer on bottom
- Scroll to highlight your choice, then press the wheel to select it.
- Press Done
to dismiss the menu and set your sort option.
About Notes
Before you add a note, here's some note facts:
- How many notes can I have? You can store a total of 50 notes, including the notes that you've discarded to the Trash. If you've run out of space, you may want to empty your Trash (read more in Empty the Trash).
- How long can each note be? Each note can be 8000 characters at most, and that includes spaces and line returns.
Add a Note
- From the Notes splash screen, press Menu
N. From the Browse Notes screen, press Menu
then select New Note [
N].
- A blank note opens. Type your note using the keyboard. Anything you type over 8000 characters will not be saved with the note.
- Your note is saved as you type it. When you're done, it is added (in the proper sort order) to your notes in the Browse Notes screen.
Edit a Note
You can always edit an existing, unfolded note by doing the following while in the Notes application:
- On the Browse Notes screen, make sure you are viewing the note unfolded. If it's folded, highlight the note with the wheel, then press to unfold it.
- The text cursor will be positioned at the spot where you last were typing in the note. Use the D-pad to move within the text; use the keyboard to edit your note. You can undo edits, before your close the note, by pressing Menu
and selecting Edit Text > Undo [
Z].
- Your edits are saved as soon as you make them.
Send a Note
To send a note to an email address, do the following:
- From the Browse Notes screen, highlight the note you wish to discard. (It doesn't matter if the note is folded or unfolded.)
- Press Menu
then select Send Note [
M].
- The Email compose screen opens. Address your note, change the default subject if you want ("A note for you"), then press Menu
+ M.
Discard a Note
Discarding a note means moving it to the Trash:
- From the Browse Notes screen, highlight the note you wish to discard. (It doesn't matter if the note is folded or unfolded.)
- Press Menu
then select Discard [
]. Alternatively, you can press Menu
+ Cancel
, which is handy when you have the screen closed.
- The note moves to the Trash, where you can later retrieve it or discard it for good.
Retrieve a Note
All notes that you have discarded are stored in the Trash, just in case you want to retrieve them later:
- From the Browse Notes screen, press Menu
then select View Trash [
T]. The Notes Trash screen opens.
- Scroll to highlight the note you want to retrieve.
- Press Menu
then select Retrieve Note.
- The note now appears in the Browse Notes screen, where you can edit it.
Empty the Trash
Remember that you can store 50 notes, including the notes you've sent to the Trash. If you're running out of available space, empty your Trash:
- From the Browse Notes screen, press Menu
then select View Trash [
T]. The Notes Trash screen opens.
- Press Menu
then select Empty Trash.
- A confirmation dialog box opens, asking if you're sure you want to permanently discard the notes. Select Empty Trash (or select Cancel
if you change your mind about permanently discarding your trashed notes).
- The Notes Trash screen appears with the message "The Trash is empty."
