The Friend List Screen

About the Friend List Screen

The Friend List screen is your main view into the Yahoo! Messenger service. The screen shows a grouped listing of all your friends.

Title Bar   At the very top of the screen in the title bar you'll see your Yahoo! ID and current status ("available" in the illustration above).

Groups   Next, all the groups you have created are listed, with the friends in collapsible lists.

Friends and Status   With the group contents expanded, to the far right of each friend's Yahoo! ID you'll see their open conversation number (if you have a conversation open with them), and to the left is an availability/status icon, if applicable. Here's what the icons mean:

Friend is available.

Friend is busy (status message is shown in parentheses after friend's Yahoo! ID).

Friend is idle.

You have a new message from this friend.

Friend is signed in from a device/friend is idle.

Friend is signed in from a wireless device/friend is idle.

Offline Friends   Friends who are "offline" are shown in italic font. You can choose to display or not display offline friends. (Press Menu then select Offline Friends > Show/Hide.) Also, if you are out of radio range, the friends in your Friend List will be displayed in italic font instead of plain text. When you come back into range, they will be appear in plain text again

Open Conversations   Running vertically down the right side of the screen, all the conversations with unread messages are symbolized by little balloons, with the conversation number in the balloon. Note also that if you have an unread message, you will see a tiny Yahoo! Messenger icon in the title bar, directly under the date.
